Long awaited, Dream Magic has finally been released and ends the Haven Series. Twice the length of any other story this book includes three appendices that explain and discuss the underlying world. Brand is no longer young, but he still wields a mean Axe. Myrrdin and Oberon resolve their differences as father and son at last. A new power, the most terrifying ever seen, arises and threatens all the rest. In the final war of the Jewels, every power of the Nine plays a key role. Brand’s usual allies turn against him, while former enemies become friends. Who is on which side? Who can Brand trust, and who is secretly aligned against him? He must make his choice and wield his flashing axe justly…The Haven and the fate of two worlds hangs in the balance. DREAM MAGIC is the final volume in the series. If you are new to the books, it is strongly suggested you start with Volume One Haven Magic. This entire epic series of fantasy novels by bestselling author B. V. Larson is now available in print, audio or ebook form.

Dream Magic is the seventh and final book in the Haven Series (although in Appendix B for Trev, the author mentions a book eight and book nine. This may have been his original plan before he consolidated Books 1,2,3 together and Books 4,5,6 as well at a lower overall price and forgot to edit this oversight). Overall, Dream Magic was an interesting story with some new characters introduced and some former minor characters playing major roles. The author brought closure to the Haven Series which was a good thing. However, how the ending actually came to be (specifically how one of the main characters new exactly what to do to facilitate the ending is beyond me). There were examples of that in this book and others that didn't seem realistic to me, but its fantasy so go with it.

Without writing a long diatribe, I think my main complaint of each book in the series (which I have begun to notice in Mr. Larson's other series Hyborean Dragons) is that there isn't a central character/protagonist that I really truly cared about. Somebody who I could get behind. Brand in the first book and maybe Trev to some extent in this book were exceptions to the rule. It's hard to explain, but for me, if I can't relate to a character by putting myself in their shoes or feeling some connection or compassion for them, then I find it very difficult to fully invest myself into the story. I don't think it is the author's fault in this series, as each jewel of power has a negative side effect to anyone that holds them. Regardless, the fact is the main protagonist and all the supporting characters who held a jewel of power were not really likable people. I think it really was that simple for me. There was not one person I could really or even want to really relate to. As a jewel bearer, everyone had an irritable, annoying or negative quality to them that after seven books in the series, wore on me. Again, as the author designed, but annoying nonetheless. There were some supporting characters that were likable, but their roles were minor overall and therefore their impact on me was minor.

Overall, editing was better in this book than in the others and the story was entertaining. Now that the series as a whole is more affordable than before (do to the recent consolidations), I would recommend giving the series a try.

Dream Magic Haven Series Collection Volume 3 B V Larson 9781499757811 Books Reviews

Not my favorite series of B. V. Larson. I am glad I read them, but would not really recommend them to a friend. The story is slow, not a lot of change in each book, I felt I just had to smash my way to the end. I kept waiting for the excitement and something good to happen but it was not to be. Really good book for a young teenager, but not for adult reading.
I am rereading this series after enjoying this ending. The characters came to life in expected as well as unexpected ways, and the storyline was intriguing as well as familiar. Known for sci fi militaristic stories, I am glad I took a chance and tried this fantasy series as well. This author can truly take you on adventures anywhere! Thank you again, B. V. Larson!
I honestly never thought that this series was going to get a conclusion. With the star force books and his author projects I figured that the Haven series was prematurely over. Then lo and behold! Here it is! Well written and satisfying, worth the read if you have already read the first books. Well worth starting the series if you are a newcomer.
I have to admit that I loved the story, but found the many missing words from fragmented sentences and references dragged the reading experience down. First the Dragon has "scales shining blue" then they are black. Morgana is referred to as "standing there himself" and the list continues. I normally read rather quickly and my mind fills in the blanks or glazes over the minor editing issues, but I had moments of pause this time. I was generally entertained with the entire story otherwise and loved the twist of the "Silver". I certainly would recommend this to friends but would like to see another round of copy edit.
The book felt rushed and lacked (my perception) the same detail as the previous books. The characters seemed to encounter a problem and solve it on the same page (based on reading on my droid phone). Fafna the dragon went from wanting to eat everyone to a tamed pet almost immediately. I wanted to like the book, as I enjoyed its predecessors, but numerous times while I was reading, I found myself wondering if B. V. Larson had other books he wanted to write and was just going through the motions to finish this one. If you've read the whole series, I would still recommend it for the simple sake of closure but be prepared to read and never look back.
BV Larson is one of my favorite authors. He doesn't disappoint in this final installment of the Haven Series. The action is always moving and keeps you interested in how the story will play out. I have to admit, there are points where the story struggles, or Larson struggled with what to do. All the characters are fully developed at this point and have been through the ringer. So...what to do with them now. He manages a twisty-turny tail, but it is almost as if he put character names in a hat and tossed them out to see who is against whom. There are unexpected combinations. But, the battles are never dull, I love Larson's battles. I can never stop reading during a battle, they're too good. The end is satisfactory, redeeming and finished.
This story comes full circle. The moment Brand became the axeman, and to Trev, when he learned he was the quicksilver, Gudrin was making preparations to make sure all the jewels came together. They have to be in close proximity to each other to launch the final phase of her plans. Only Gudrin remembers the stories told by the elders for Gudrin is a " Tailspinner", a member of the kindred that live in Snowdon. Her moment came when she learned that the Witch of the Woods, Morgana was gathering her army together, for she is the wielder of the "White Jewel." This jewel has power over minds of all that have been touched by her. Morgana has only one goal, to have all the jewels in her possession. Read on to see who wins in the end. You' 'll be surprised.
